The purpose of this virtual clearinghouse is to ensure that children, youth, and young adults in West Virginia receive culturally appropriate, evidence-based treatment and recovery services in their homes, schools, and communities. The programs and practices reviewed will be applicable to children, youth, and young adults from birth to age 24 years. The Clearinghouse will serve as a searchable database that will provide information about the efficacy of practices and programs that are relevant to the State of West Virginia.
Subject Matter Expert
Those wishing to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and conduct reviews will submit an application indicating their interest, training, and areas of expertise. All SMEs will be provided with six hours of training and review in research methodology relevant to clinical trials as well as the rating system utilized for the Clearinghouse. Training will culminate in the completion of the first assigned intervention for review and each SME will be paid a stipend for this effort. Assignments for subsequent reviews will be made by the Executive Committee based on goodness-of-fit between the specified areas of expertise and the interventions to be reviewed. All SMEs contacted will have an opportunity to consider their availability and professional comfort with the review before accepting or rejecting the invitation.
The Subject Matter Expert will serve as a critical component to the development of the West Virginia Evidence-Based Clearinghouse. The role of the Subject Matter Expert is to review research literature collected regarding specific evidence-based behavioral health strategies. Together, with the Graduate Assistant, the Subject Matter Expert will determine the research rating of each assigned practice and/or program.
- Review summary of research literature provided by the Graduate Assistant.
- Provide support to Graduate Assistant when challenges arise.
- Review summary of research literature provided by the Graduate Assistant.
- Provide support to Graduate Assistant when challenges arise.
- Meet via video, phone or in-person with the Graduate Assistant to determine review rating and discuss discrepancies.
- Participate in 6 hour training (three, 2-hour training sessions) to serve as a Subject Matter Expert.
- Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Must have terminal degree in area of expertise
- Must have training in research – including coursework as well as empirical products
- Must have expertise in clinical training areas
Graduate Assistant
Those wishing to serve as Graduate Assistants (GA) to work with the SMEs will also complete an application detailing research experience, clinical experience, and areas of expertise. The Advisory Committee will maintain a pool of Graduate Assistants who will be offered the opportunity to work with SMEs on the review of specific interventions. All Graduate Assistants will be provided with six hours of training and review in research methodology relevant to clinical trials as well as the rating system utilized for the Clearinghouse. Training will culminate in the completion of the first assigned intervention for review and each GA will be paid a stipend for this effort.

- Meet via video, phone or in-person with the Subject Matter Expert to determine review rating and discuss discrepancies.
- Participate in 6 hour training (three, 2-hour training sessions) to serve as a GA.
- Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Must be actively enrolled in a graduate program in a relevant field of study
- Must have a faculty reference
- Must have coursework in research
